Travel tips for your next vacation to Crested Butte, Colorado
High Altitude Sickness
The Alpine Getaways office sits at about 8,880 feet above sea level, while Mt. Crested Butte sits at 9,380 feet above sea level. Most of our visitors come directly from sea level (or close to) and we would like to suggest a few things in order to avoid the symptoms of high altitude sickness upon your arrival:
- Drink lots of water; staying hydrated will reduce headaches, cramps and other symptoms
- Eat plenty of food, especially those richer in carbohydrates; carbohydrates take less oxygen to metabolize and digest
- Listen to your body and rest in between all those activities; we highly recommend naps!
Although these things may seem rather obvious in nature, high altitude sickness is very common and can lead to a much more serious and a possibly fatal form of the same illness. We want you to enjoy every minute of your vacation, so if you have any questions or other concerns regarding this please feel free to contact us at any time!
